As part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, 52 basketball and handball matches will be played at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium. The Lille Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC) home ground will therefore host the preliminary phases of the men’s and women’s basketball competitions as well as the final phases of the men’s and women’s handball competitions. These Olympic events will take place from 27 July to 11 August 2024 in the Metropole territory.

“When Paris was officially named host city for the 2024 Olympic Games, we immediately got in touch with Tony Estanguet, Chairman of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, to tell him that given our experience we were the perfect choice,” said Eric Skyronka, Vice-President of Lille Metropole.
After presenting the Stadium site and how suited it is to host major events, and inviting Tony Estanguet to the National Volleyball League in 2018, the Vice-President of Lille Metropole met with Etienne Thobois, director general of the Olympic and Paralympic Organising Committee (Cojop).
"Every year in Australia, there is the Sport Accord association, with all the federations and the Olympics Organising Committees. We have shown a real determination to achieve this.
Lille Metropole had “internationally renowned know-how" he said enabling it to adapt the transport plan or waste management plan. And to conclude with regard to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, "With Damien Castelain, President of Lille Metropole, we focused on the handball and basketball competitions and this strategy paid off."
